Instagram + Weekend Reading

Well, I've given in and finally joined Instagram. Initially I wasn't interested, and then I liked being a female in their target demographic who was avoiding their product, and now it just seems like not a big deal either way. We'll see if it lasts, but for now, should you have any inclination, you can follow me at @styledtour, where I have posted such gems such as:

1. The outfit I wore to SF MOMA on Near Year's Day. It felt appropriate to start the year off with art, culture, beauty...and elbow patches. True story - I bought this sweater at a sample sale in NY, and it was so cheap that I assumed the patches were not real leather. I didn't realize until after I ran it through the washing machine that they are, in fact, lambskin. My bad. At least I caught it before I ran it through the dryer.

2. A shirt I found the last time I was home, and I brought back with me as a lounging-around top. I really want to go back to the Grand Canyon (I went when I was in elementary school) and this helps fuel that fire. 

3. Lastly, a close up of my new suede jacket, as well as a great Eileen Fisher sweater. I remember thinking that their clothing was so "mature" looking when I was younger, but recently I have been gravitating toward all of their dresses and sweaters whenever I see them. I wonder if that makes Eileen Fisher like the broccoli of clothing, and all I had to do was grow up to appreciate it a little bit more.

Style Dtour: Gilmore Girls - Gypsy

Welcome to Day Two. Today, I am paying homage to the Stars Hollow mechanic, Gypsy. Goodness knows I love a jumpsuit, and this one is very comfortable. I've tried styling it w/ a lacy tank, to balance out the more masculine style of the cut and color, but here I paired it with a t-shirt that has two panthers crawling across the front (so, you know, a slightly different direction)...

This one is nice because the bottom is like a pair of jeans, basically, so it isn't totally shapeless. However, I find there is a bit of an adjustment period with a new jumpsuit, which I have to keep in mind when I have to pee. The buttons on this were pretty stiff initially and it took forever to unbutton. 

Now if I only knew how to change a tire.

This photo is kind of crazy - there is no filter, but the sun was shining directly into the camera, and it ended up sun-streaked. It does, however, capture the feeling in the air the day I took it.

Outfit Roundup - Wear to Work

Last week, I test-drove two pretty trendy looks in the office: crop tops and over-sized cardigans.

First up, the crop top. This particular one is Elizabeth and James (this available here), and has shiny metallic embellishments. I paired it with a high-waisted skirt, and layered a tank underneath, so even when raising my arms to put on a sweater (like so), there was no risk that some of my skin would peak out.

Upper abdomen is not really business casual, no matter how you slice it.
