Dotty + Weekend Reading

Boots Rachel Comey

Pants | Joe's Jeans
Shoes | Rachel Comey Mars
This week was pretty busy, and I feel like my brain is just out of words. Luckily, I can use photos, and link to other people's words down below. These photos show that I am really into skinny jeans with these boots right now. I think the skinny jean in a dark color makes my legs look really long. The slight heels also makes me very aware of my posture and so I always try to stand up straight. I look at least 5'5'' in that photo, don't you think =)
I'm also all over the dark color-palette-spectrum here as well, as well as with polka dots and stripes: the top is navy, the jeans are black, the blazer is grey, and the boots are actually sort of maroon.

Satisfying Souvenirs

I have started a tradition of seeking out thrift or consignment stores when I am on vacation, in order to find a souvenir. It is a nice way to avoid touristy memorabilia, explore a city's second-hand scene, and get some awesome clothing. Based on what I've seen so far, I think Denver might hold my top spot for second-hand finds. Thanks to a recent trip to Amsterdam, I finally got to implement this system internationally, rather than just domestically, and used Yelp to try and narrow down where I should go.
This coat is from Wini Vintage, which honestly, was pretty darn similar to a consignment store I might find in the Bay Area. It is an awesome mini-caped wool coat that fits perfectly. Not only that, but it has a charming red lining, that peaks out when you wear the coat unbuttoned. The sewing on the outside of the coat is also red, but is pretty innocuous until you see it next to the red lining. The woman working at Wini Vintage was really helpful and not at all pushy, and when she saw me trying this on, she brought a few other coats she thought would look good. There was one more, military-inspired coat I really liked but since I did only carry on luggage, and didn't really need two more wool coats, sacrifices had to be made.
I really like the little cape, but, who knows how I'll feel about that design element years from now. Luckily for me the cape is detachable! Affixed with three buttons hidden behind the collar, and when removed, the coat is streamlined and sharp looking. There is no brand label on the inside, but it does still have the tag letting me know it is made of wool.

How do you shop for souvenirs, and what are some of your favorite finds?

Weekend Reading

Blazer | Theory
Sweater | Inhabit
Pants | Joe's Jeans

Just a quick look at an outfit, and some weekend reading today. Even though this week was shorter, thanks to the Monday holiday, it felt way too long. This was a casual work look, highlighting my favorite booties, which I've mentioned here before, the Rachel Comey Mars. They are a deep maroon color, and fit in well with this grey, tan and black color palette. I also think that, when paired with black skinny jeans, they make my legs look a mile long.
For your weekend perusal:
1. In the photo above, I'm ready to curl up with the recent edition of Vogue, the one with the controversial Karlie Kloss spread.

2. Did you read this article, of one woman's account of her time at Uber? Uber has since hired Eric Holder to head up the investigation into the sexual harassment claims. (That also made me think, huh, I wonder what Eric Holder has been up to, and the answer is, among other things, working with tech companies, including Uber (he has, however, pledged to maintain independence)).

3. While fashion week is happening, I always like to save the images from the show for the end of the day, when I'm done with work, and then just binge on pictures from 10 shows, all in a row. From Vogue Runway, a look at the awesome Prada ready-to-wear show - I love all of the voluminous fringed skirts:

4. From Racked, I concur that overalls are basically the best clothes.

5. An oddly soothing video, looking at how a Lush Bath Bomb is made (Refinery29).

6. Lastly, from Glossy, a look at fashion website Garmentory - I think their model of pairing with small boutiques is interesting - has anyone ever shopped with them?

Thanks for stopping by, and have a good weekend.

Last of the Poinsettias

Rag & Bone Convertible Coat

I hope you had a relaxing and merry holiday. My picture spot had some poinsettias added around Christmas, making all my photos a little more festive, and these are the last of those photos.
First up - a holiday-appropriate coat if I ever saw one. This one is XS in Rag & Bone and I got it on extra clearance on the RealReal. The best part is that what looks like black piping is actually zippers - the coat unzips around the waist, and becomes a moto jacket! I think it might be a little big, and the arms are a tad long, but the cocoon coat look is in so I just started wearing it - fit be damned.
A rare smile in these photos...
Second, a casual weekend look which features one of my favorite t-shirts. It is a satisfyingly thick cotton and a cool stained glass print. Since the top is various shades of grey, as is my jacket, I used the print in the shirt and quilted texture of the jacket to make the outfit more visually interesting. The jacket is still available at Alternative Apparel, and if you wait, they usually have pretty significant sales, should you have any interest in knowing that information.

En-trenched

Ah, the classic trench. This one is actually navy, although it looks black in this photo. I think a trench coat is one of those closet staples that elevates an outfit. Without the trench, it is obvious I just mixed all the soft sweater-items in my closet together, but with the trench - well - it is a real outfit.  This one is Banana Republic, in their petite sizing.
