Up, up, up

Vest | Plenty by Tracy Reese
Pants | American Apparel

Boots | J. Crew Matte Chelsea Rain Boot
This post is about outfits, but mostly it is about the amazing views in San Francisco. We've been getting a lot of rain, and once there was a small respite, Cait and I headed to higher ground in order to take in the blue skies and swing out over the city (more on that later).
Cait brought her very fashionable, and yet practical poncho, which is fastened with an oversized pin.
She told me: I had been hunting for a poncho with a southwestern vibe, and I loved this at first sight. Despite the bold pattern, the neutral colors make it more wearable - and I really like the overall shape, collar and fringe. It is now my favorite travel piece - it doubles as a fashionable blanket on the plane [I agree, this is so clutch]. The J. Crew rain booties are proving to be versatile, and my favorite shoe this winter. With all the rain, it is nice to have something lighter in weight that looks more like a normal boot than knee high glossy Hunters [again, agree! When I first saw her with these I didn't realize they were rainboots]

Knowing it might be muddy, and would still be a bit chilly, I pulled out the hoodie I featured earlier this week, my trusty Fyre boots, and was ready to go. It was a little cold, and I could have done with another layer once the sun started to go down.

Everything the sun touches is yours, Simba.
So, of course there was a random rope swing at the top of the hill, and after letting (aka making) her go first, to test its stability, I also took a turn. The view was incredible, but I have to say, it is harder to get nice photos of someone swinging than I imagined. I underestimated all of those photos shoots I've seen in magazines that feature someone on a swing, and I do apologize.

Does you city have a place you can go to see it in all of it's glory? Thanks for stopping by.

Fluorescent Green

Sweater | 3.1 Phillip Lim x Target
Jeans | Joes
Boots | Fry Dorado Riding Boot
This sweater is from the 3.1 Phillip Lim x Target collaboration from 2013. Remember that? I occasionally break it out when I want an unusual color - it is the only fluorescent green item that I own, and each time I think the same thing: great color, but super wrinkly. This time was no exception. I paired it with skinny black pants and black boots to streamline the rest of the outfit, and let that highlighter green be the focus.

Did you get anything from that collaboration? Do you still have it?

Last of the Poinsettias

Rag & Bone Convertible Coat
Coat | Rag & Bone
Pants | Citizens of Humanity
Shoes | Rachel Comey Mars
Clutch (below) | Target
I hope you had a relaxing and merry holiday. My picture spot had some poinsettias added around Christmas, making all my photos a little more festive, and these are the last of those photos.
First up - a holiday-appropriate coat if I ever saw one. This one is XS in Rag & Bone and I got it on extra clearance on the RealReal. The best part is that what looks like black piping is actually zippers - the coat unzips around the waist, and becomes a moto jacket! I think it might be a little big, and the arms are a tad long, but the cocoon coat look is in so I just started wearing it - fit be damned.
A rare smile in these photos...
Second, a casual weekend look which features one of my favorite t-shirts. It is a satisfyingly thick cotton and a cool stained glass print. Since the top is various shades of grey, as is my jacket, I used the print in the shirt and quilted texture of the jacket to make the outfit more visually interesting. The jacket is still available at Alternative Apparel, and if you wait, they usually have pretty significant sales, should you have any interest in knowing that information.

Office Snuggie

Cardigan | 8telier
Pants | See Thru Soul
Boots | Fyre Dorado Riding
I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but my office is freezing. Add to that the fact that I am someone who is typically always cold, and it is rough. Rough my friends. As such, I am always looking for something that can essentially function as an office blanket. This cardigan by 8telier is pretty darn close. It is soft, warm, and sort of has a blanket-essence about it, but it is also definitely work appropriate. I also love that it has different colors on the outside and the liner. If it only had pockets, I would probably layer it over my other clothes everyday.
Also, to answer what is your obviously your next question, yes, those are two life size "little drummer boys" in the photo behind me.
I added a pin - to give it a little something-something.
When you're cold at work - how do you cope?

Style Dtour: Gilmore Girls - Luke

Welcome to Day 1 of my Gilmore-Girls inspired posts. I am a big fan of the show, and was so excited that Netflix is bringing it back, even if only for a few episodes. In honor of the return to Stars Hallow, I wanted to do a few style shout-outs that are based on some of my favorite characters. The point isn't to copy their looks exactly, like you would for a Halloween costume, but rather to think about their style, generally, and see how it fits into pieces I already have in my closet.
First up is Luke, and when I think about Luke, what immediately comes to mind is flannel and a backwards baseball cap. It turns out a backward baseball cap is really hard to pull off (I looked ridiculous) so instead, I flipped it around, and paired it with this incredibly comfortable flannel dress, from Alternative Apparel. It is thick, soft, and has pockets, which makes it perfect for lounging around on a rainy day (such as the day these photos were taken). I paired it with some awesome and practical boots, and BAM, I'm ready to fix a boat, work at the diner, or frankly do none of those things and just watch Law & Order re-runs.

What do you think, and what in your own closet makes you think of Luke?

Thrift Tuesday - March 24

Today, we have a Thrift Tuesday double feature:
Rag & Bone Tank - The Real Real
Retail: $150.00
Paid: $30.00

Paige Skyline Jeans - Goodwill
Retail: $158.00
Paid: $7.00

The unpredictable nature of shopping secondhand requires an open mind. However, this doesn't mean you can't be prepared, so you can capitalize when you do find something with potential.

These jeans are a perfect example. Paige is one of my favorite denim brands: the company had a female founder, they offer petite sizing, and it is based in Los Angeles. Also, as their sizing is consistent, when I saw these in my size, I knew I could scoop them up without having to try them on, and there was a good chance they'd fit. This particular Goodwill had limited dressing rooms and there was a line of people waiting, so if I'd had to wait to try them on, I might have just passed. Knowing beforehand what sizes you are in brands like Banana Republic, J. Crew and Ann Taylor, can be helpful when shopping at Goodwill.
