     Week #2 of my pre-planned outfit experiment was a sartorial journey through a warming climate. #4 is basically just a cashmere tank-top, which is a totally unnecessary but awesome garment that I'm glad someone decided to make. Monday was the coldest, and will also be the focus outfit of the week, although you'll have to excuse the fact that my skin appears to be jaundice in these photos. As far as I can tell it was a weird side effect of the background wall color, and frankly I don't have the photoshop skills to fix it.

     The weather around here has been a little chilly lately, which is bit of a bummer. It means a windy walk to work and then an even colder office (why can't we tone-down the office A/C, why?!), so I've had to dig some of my sweater and jackets out of the back of the closet. What is an even bigger bummer is a recent crush of work, and thus the more infrequent posts.

I'll give you two guesses as to what I've been up to lately, although I'm sure you only need one....it is obviously pouring over fashion photos from Cannes.  Well, in addition to that, I've been working and so here are two workworkworkworkworkwork outfits.

Both of these outfits feature old stalwart items. First up, an outfit featuring a pair of shoes I have had since 2013, and which have only recently become comfortable. When I was in New York, one of the first sample sales I went to was for Matt Bernson - it was around the corner from my apartment and I stumbled into it on my way home (also, I do miss that about New York, there is no better city in the world for stumbling upon). As much as I wanted to love these shoes (they are so flattering on my legs and go with everything) they were not comfortable and gave me blisters so I shoved them in the back of a closet. I couldn't part with them, however, because that felt like defeat. Flash forward to today, I now wear them to work, and while they are totally fine for wearing in the office all day, they still start to hurt if I try to walk great distances in them. At this point though, I think they are getting close to falling apart and I feel like I did my part on making sure they were put to use. (Also, as I read this, I think the fact that I've kept them so long is slightly nuts, and they should probably go).

Next up, a pair of work pants that have served me well since 2014. I bought these when I started my current job, and they were a Marc Jacobs splurge from Nordstrom Rack (so I just looked them up because I got them around the time I started keeping my clothing spreadsheet, and they were a whopping $72.68 - however, at that point I was used to buying pants, on sale, from the Gap for like $30). I still love them, and if anything, their streamlined, ponte-pant-ness has become only more and more trendy over the years. They also have fun zippers around the ankles. I went nuts with a half-tucked shirt, because it is the only way I know how to wear a shirt, and was feeling good.

Speaking of Nordstrom Rack (honestly, these posts are never sponsored, but I should look in that, haha, I basically buy all my shoes there) I recently found these babies - comfortable right off the shelf. I've seen a lot of Donald J. Pliner shoes there and they always catch my eye because they seem very well made, however nothing has ever been quite the right fit. These will be versatile work shoes for me and, it is hard to see but there is a little rhinestone border at the edge of the sole, which is pretty delightful.

One More Week

 This week is going to feel so long. After this week I am going on a vacation (woop), so I just need to power through, and keep my eyes on the relaxation prize at the end of the tunnel. Also, there might be a bit of a posting hiatus while I am gone, but hopefully when I get back I will have a lot of exciting travel pictures. Those will probably mostly consist of pretty locations, and me in basically the same outfit over and over, because I am trying to get away with only doing carry-on luggage, haha. I know - when I put it like that, you can't wait, right?

These photos are from this past weekend, and while it was a bit chilly, it was not raining, so I took the opportunity to bust out my trusty OTK suede boots. Of course, it did start raining, so I had to make a mad dash for it, while trying to mindfully avoid puddles. Everything about this outfit is soft (I am so texture focused), from the suede boots, stretchy pants, smooth knits, and the silky tank. These boots, which I first reviewed almost a year ago, continue to look and feel great, and I am so glad that OTK boots are still a thing. I would probably wear them even if they were not, but it doesn't hurt. Overall, a great casual weekend look, even if it isn't very practical in the rain.

Lemaire + la pluie

The rain continues, so I continue to layer. One morning it was only overcast, so I got a little cocky and went bare ankles, which I ended up regretting. I paired this cool, midi-length pencil skirt with a sweater from Uniqlo's collaboration in 2015 with Lemaire. Lemaire is the eponymous label of designer Christophe Lemaire, who left Hermes to open his own line, and then later accepted a job as the artistic director of Uniqlo. Maybe the collab was a trial-run? The internet seems to suggest he is still in that position, although it is a little unclear.
I focused on textures when pairing these pieces (the woven printed skirt, the chunky knit top, and the soft suede jacket), and the cold weather made me gravitate toward richer, deeper and more brooding colors. This sweater is amazingly soft, and I like the swingy silhouette - it makes me feel like I should tie a scarf around my neck and swing my arms around in a dramatic fashion. I do wish the sleeves were either full length, or shorter, but it is possible that on a taller model they were closer to 3/4 sleeves.  The way it is now, my wrists are just a little colder than I'd like them to be. I guess my real take-away from this post is that someone needs to bring back ankle warmers and make wrist warmers a thing as well. Is that too much to ask blogasphere?
